IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Season Story Lines to Wrap Up at 15th Annual Petit Le Mans

Braselton, GA, Oct. 16, 2012-- Scenic Road Atlanta will play host to several racing series during the 15th Annual Petit Le Mans October 17-20, but the sleek Porsche 911 cars of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Series are sure to look especially smooth navigating the famous Esses at Road Atlanta.

While the Championships have already been clinched in both the Platinum and Gold Cup classes, the GT3 Cup cars still have two race wins per class to contend for at the 2.54-mile, 12-turn road course.

Platinum and Gold Cup class action has pitted young guns against seasoned veterans of the series in the 2012 season.

In the Platinum Cup division, 21-year-old Sean Johnston has had a breakout rookie season duking it out with seasoned GT3 Cup Challenge drivers like Fernando Pena. He wrapped up the Platinum Cup championship with wins during the series’ most recent stop at Virginia International Raceway.

Second place in the Platinum Cup championship is still up for grabs, however. Rookie Madison Snow, currently in second with 189 points, is trailed closely by Pena, who has 179 points.

The Gold Cup championship was also recently clinched by rookie Angel Benitez, Jr. at Virginia International Raceway. Benitez, Jr. heads into competition at Road Atlanta with his sights set on breaking track records.

The Platinum Cup class features 2010 - 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, while the Gold Cup class includes Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars from 2005 1/2 through 2009.

IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama 2012 storylines will culminate Oct. 17-20 during the 15th Annual Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda race weekend.
