Team News: NGT Motorsport Enters Six Cars in IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama
MIAMI, Fl. (February 14, 2011) – Miami-based NGT Motorsport, winners of the 2010 Gold Cup class championship, will enter six cars in the 2011 IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama.
Five drivers return to NGT for 2011, all with at least a season of competition in the series under their belts. But for two of the drivers, the picture will look very different this year, as Henrique Cisneros and Carlos Kauffmann (who went by the name Carlos Eduardo last season) move up in class.
Venezuelan Henrique Cisneros won the 2010 Gold Cup class with two victories (both at Mid-Ohio) and a steady effort throughout the season that saw him earn podium finishes in 11 of the 14 races. Cisneros returns to the series in 2011 with a new ride – a 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in the Platinum Cup class.
Kauffmann had a stranglehold on the 2010 Gold Cup class championship early in the season, with five victories in the first six races. But a series of misfortunes in the middle of the season saw his title hopes slip away, landing him in third place in the final standings. Kauffmann, like Henrique Cisneros, will spend this season behind the wheel of a brand new 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
Henrique’s brothers, Eduardo and Andres Cisneros, have chosen to remain in the Gold Cup class this year. Both have unfinished business in the class, which features 2005½ - 2009 Porsches. Both finished in the top 15 in the championship (with Eduardo 6thand Andres 13th) and look to improve those positions.
Ludovico Manfredi ran a full season in GT3 with NGT Motorsport last season, after running parts of the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the team. Finishing fifth in last year’s championship, Manfredi will also battle for the Gold Cup class championship.
Joining the team this season will be Ray Arthur, who ran three races with the series in 2007, finishing third in the first race of the year at Sebring. Team owner Ramez Wahab is happy to welcome Arthur to the team, where he will drive a 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in the Platinum Cup class, for 2010 and 2011 Porsches.
“I’ve known Ray for seven years,” said Wahab. “I used to race against him in Porsche Club of America events. Ray is a great addition to NGT and I’m very happy that he will be joining us."
The first two rounds of the 2011 IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama will be March 17 and 18, as part of the 59th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
